Engines! F1 boss arrives in Joburg for Kyalami GP deal to seal

Oh boy, this is so exciting! The man at the top of F1's hierarchy arrived in Joburg

on Monday to advance talks about the possibility of putting a South African Grand Prix back on the race calendar for 2023.

F1 boss 'in Joburg' for Kyalami talks

Stefano Domenicali will meet officials from the Kyalami Circuit in Gauteng to strike a deal that will bring the sport back to Africa. Mzansi hasn't staged an F1 race since 1993, and South Africa will end its three-decade wait to host another GP if these talks are successful.

Rumours of an F1 race in South Africa have been buzzing for the past few years. It's no secret that Formula 1 bigwigs are keen to get Africa on their racing.

South Africa is' now likely' to appear on the F1 race calendar for 2023

However, all of that is likely to change next year, largely thanks to the views shared by some of the sport's top drivers. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has expressed his desire for South Africa to host a race in 2023, and it appears his request has been accepted.

The race schedule for 2023 is set for TWO new additions, including the SA race!

Domenicali is understood to have travelled directly from the Baku GP in Azerbaijan yesterday before heading to Sandton for the crucial possible inclusion of Kyalami would be the second new addition to next year's racing calendar after a street circuit in Las Vegas was given the green light.

The addition of a race in South Africa could mean that F1 will have to deal with a 24-race calendar for the first time in its history. But with the sport's popularity skyrocketing recently, Domenicali and his colleagues are under pressure to give the public what he wants.
