The 2022 NBA Draft is finally here, and with it comes the culmination of years of evaluating players in this class.
We dropped our first big table for the 2022 NBA Draft the day after the 2021 NBA Draft ended. A lot has changed since our initial projection last June, but the top two players on our preseason board stayed precisely the same throughout the process.
Banchero
Now it's time to post our final draft rankings for the cycle. As I reflect on this class, I have a pervasive feeling: This was one of my favorite draft classes to cover.
What made this class so much fun to evaluate was having four prospects with a legitimate case for being considered the best player in the class. Anyone looking at this draft class had to plant his flag on his No. 1 and live with the results. For me, that is Duke forward, Paolo Banchero. I also liked that many top prospects came from college basketball this season, especially when none of the top three players on next year's roster will ever set foot on a college campus. There is no path to the NBA that is inherently better than others. Still, I love seeing how the best players fit into the storied traditions and pressure-filled atmospheres that college basketball specializes in.
Here's our list of the top 60 prospects in the 2022 NBA Draft. After the table, we'll break down the levels and discuss our main takeaways.
Paolo Banchero is our number 1
Banchero has been our top prospect since the beginning of the cycle because he's the best shotmaker in the class. For a vast 6-foot-5, 550-pound forward, Banchero offers excellent ball-handling ability and one of the best live passes in the class. He's a burden to handle as a downhill scoring threat, a skilled midrange shooter, and tough enough to intimidate people in the post. He is the player in this class most likely to become a top choice on a competitive team, elevating him above his peers.
Banchero skeptics Trae Young-level responsibility
Banchero skeptics act like defending him is a Trae Young-level responsibility, but that's an exaggeration. Once again, he is huge and has long shown a strong feel for the game. At worst, he's going to be fine defensively. Please read our analysis of why Banchero is our No. 1 prospect here.
