    Anthony Edwards was prompt

Anthony Edwards was prompt, just like he is on the court, to apologize for referring to a group of men in a homophobic manner in an Instagram story.

That probably prevented Edwards from paying a significant fine, but not entirely. The NBA imposed a $40,000 punishment on Edwards for "using rude and abusive remarks on social media."

Edwards's brief apologies probably saved him

Edwards was given a pass, which appears to be a pattern with recent NBA penalties. As an example, Kevin Durant was penalized $50,000 for sending homophobic and misogynistic texts in private that were made public. In such a situation, Edwards's brief apologies probably saved him.

Edwards may make a bigger impact by helping LGBTQ+ organizations in the Minneapolis area, as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar suggested on his Substack.

Tim Connelly, the president of the Timberwolves, released a statement in which he said, "We are disappointed with the language and conduct Anthony Edwards demonstrated on social media. The Timberwolves pledge to be a diverse and friendly organization and express their regret for the offense this has brought to so many people.

    Timberwolves' trade for Rudy Gobert

As a result of the Timberwolves' trade for Rudy Gobert, who will join Karl-Anthony Towns in a twin-tower front line, Edwards and the team are in a more favorable light this season. Last season, Edwards averaged 21.3 points per game and was expected to make the All-Star team this year (if not more).
