Coach Matt Eberflus
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is giving his players plenty of work during the preseason, unlike other NFL head coaches who keep their essential starters off the field.
The preseason finale against the Browns
In Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns, Eberflus stated today that the coach intends to use starting quarterback Justin Fields for the entire first half. Fields will probably have most of the first-string offense surrounding him, although Eberflus indicated that in the third and final preseason week, he could give some seasoned players extra rest. Roquan Smith, a linebacker, won't be one of the seasoned starters taking Saturday off, though. Eberflus stated that Smith would be on the field.

Smith missed most of training camp while he explored a new deal or a trade, but he just announced that he would play for the Bears this season in the final year of his rookie deal, which is in its fifth and last year. Before the games matter, Eberflus wants to give Smith some playing time.
On Sunday, September 11, the Bears host the 49ers to begin the regular season.
