    WNBA Finals

The Connecticut Sun may be down one game in the WNBA Finals after dropping their first postseason series opener, but they haven't lost faith thanks to a stern defensive effort in Game 1. LAS VEGAS (AP) —

The Sun achieved its goal by restricting the league's top offensive to below its season average. The top-seeded Las Vegas Aces scored a playoff record of 92.3 points per game entering the championship round, up from an average of 90.4 points per game during the regular season.

Connecticut gained confidence from its performance on Sunday, when it held Las Vegas to its lowest point total of the playoffs in a 67-64 loss, as it gets ready for Game 2 on Tuesday.

    Alyssa Thomas

Alyssa Thomas, a forward, stated, "I mean, after this game, we have to have a lot of confidence." We had a chance to tie; it was a three-point game. At our house, there are two games, and I believe we are extremely confident and aware of this. So, yes, certain things need cleaning. We can certainly make more shots, but we gave it our all.

It was so tricky that Las Vegas only managed to shoot 39.7% from the field and 20.8% from 3-point range, both postseason lows.

The 67 points were the fewest that Las Vegas had scored all season, and only four previous occasions saw the Aces' shooting from the field and long-range be worse.

    Coach Becky Hammon

The entire game, they play so hard, said Aces coach Becky Hammon. Because of the team's tenacity, you must never let off the gas.

The Aces discovered after taking the game's largest lead in the first quarter, a 21-9 edge that they gradually blew as Connecticut sped up the game.

Curt Miller remarked as the game progressed

The Sun frustrated Las Vegas by clogging passing lanes, limiting space for league MVP A'ja Wilson, and preventing the Aces from getting to the glass as they imposed their defensive will in the second quarter, opening the period on a 13-4 run to grab a 30-29 lead.

Connecticut coach Curt Miller remarked as the game progressed, "we discovered routines to get consecutive stops." "Our defence settled in and got to our pillars, got to the game plan, and started to get the type of game that we feel we need to be successful," said the defensive unit.

The issue for the Sun was that they could not capitalize on numerous opportunities, missing many shots they would ordinarily make and giving them a chance to go into halftime with a lead of at least five points rather than just four.

Thomas stated, "Unfortunately, they hit more shots than us, and we didn't get stops in time. We came out, and we played hard. But Game 2 is coming up, so we'll watch the video and prepare for it.
