Yet two weeks after their starting quarterback suffered a thumb injury against the Buccaneers, the Cowboys find themselves with a winning record for the first time in 2022.

Not much was expected of Rush instead of Prescott. It was widely assumed that they would lose to the Bengals in Week 2, while they were considered an underdog in their Week 3 matchup with the Giants.
Rush defied expectations and was able to help the Cowboys to win in each of those two games.

So for Rush to be on a roster with him is quite a remarkable achievement.
Is this a bit of statistical selection? Sure, but it's not easy to get opportunities to start as an undrafted quarterback, let alone go undefeated in those starts.

Not only is it difficult for an undrafted quarterback to start his career 3-0, but it's also not something Cowboys quarterbacks have done often.

He may also have a chance to join Beuerlein as the only quarterback to start his career in Dallas with a 4-0 record if he starts Week 4 against Washington.
ESPN shared a graphic at the end of their broadcast that highlighted Rush's 3-0 start to his career as a starter. He noted that Rush is not only undefeated in his first three starts but has posted a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime of each contest.
So not only has Rush been able to win consistently, but he has done so in closely contested games.

Interestingly, it seemed like the Cowboys were done with Rush during the 2020 NFL offseason.
The team signed Andy Dalton in May as Prescott's backup and released Rush after previously re-signing him to a one-year deal.
He looked for a new opportunity and ended up with the Giants, who hired former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett.
He could do it during training camp, but eventually, the Giants waived him twice. First, it was so he could sign up for the practice squad.
After that, he was released in favor of Clayton Thorson, who recently played for the USFL's Houston Gamblers.
Rush landed back in Dallas after all that due to an injury to Prescott. He climbed back up the ranks and became the team's main substitute in 2021.
And he showed the Giants a little bit of what they were missing in the Cowboys' win Monday night.
