Galloway Township, N.J.: Frida Kinhult birdied the par-5 18th for a 4-under 67 and the ShopRite LPGA Classic second-round lead on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Swede, who starred at Florida State and was the world's top-ranked amateur in 2019, is looking for her maiden tour victory.
Kinhult noted, "It felt wonderful out there." "This weekend's course has been a scorable one, and I need to keep it up." I know I won't be able to go out on Sunday and shoot."
Kinhult birdied Nos. 8, 12, and 13 - all par 4s - in a bogey-free round at Seaview Hotel and Golf Club under gloomy and relatively calm conditions. She shot a nine-under 133 total.
Lauren Coughlin was a point behind after a 65 with no bogeys.
Coughlin stated, "I just felt like it was all beginning to come together." On Friday, I felt like I performed pretty well and was close to winning. All came together on Saturday, and the putts began to fall into place.
Sunday was forecasted to be windy and rainy.
Anything might happen tomorrow, according to Kinhult. I won't be able to go out and make pars. Tomorrow, I'll have to fight for my birdies and try to get a low one to achieve a W."
Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Morgane Metraux shot 67 and were seven under par. Lydia Ko (65), Albane Valenzuela (66), Lindsey Weaver-Wright (68), and Nasa Hataoka were all at six-under (68). Isi Gabsa had the best game of the week, shooting 64 after a 74 to finish at four-under. Jin Young Ko, the world number one, was four under after a 71.
Coughlin went to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia to see the Phillies play the Arizona Diamondbacks shortly after finishing her round on Saturday.
She stated, "I'll be at the game with my husband (former Virginia football player John Pond). We're going to meet up with a couple of our excellent friends who reside in Philly because they bought us tickets to the game." My spouse enjoys baseball, and I enjoy visiting other stadiums and seeing new things.
