Dak Prescott started and participated
For the first 64 games of his career, Dak Prescott started and participated in almost all offensive plays. However, the Cowboys quarterback's season was cut short by a complex fracture and ankle dislocation in Week 5 of the 2020 campaign. He sustained injuries to his shoulder and calf in 2021, keeping him out of some training camp and one game.
He was found to have a thumb fracture in the first game of the season on Sunday, necessitating surgery on Monday.
Prescott arrived at the news conference following the game with a black brace on his injured right hand.
Prescott's injury
Prescott replied, "Yeah, it's sad, but injuries happen. "It's not always under my control. Simply unfortunate, It goes without saying that I'll miss some of my team's time. The thing that stings the most, especially given the start we just made, is that. I needed to be able to answer because I might not have it for a few weeks. Yes, it's awful, but I'll just carry on once hardship strikes. I'll dive in headfirst, do my absolute best, and I'm confident I'll emerge stronger from this.
Prescott's injury will keep him out for a few weeks, but it won't finish the season.
"You need to consider the reality that he is not, in any way, done for the year. According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, he won't be sidelined for the entire year, but he'll miss a few games. "Let's just get in here, win a few games, and stay, so we can contend for that postseason when the time comes."
Cowboys' backup quarterback
In the last 6:02 of the Buccaneers' 19-3 season-opening defeat, Prescott connected with Ezekiel Elliott for a 3-yard loss. Shaq Barrett's hand was struck by his throwing hand as he followed through.
Prescott said, "Thought I jammed it." In my work, I've hit on a lot of bodies, but I've never really experienced anything other than perhaps a jammed finger, which is what I initially assumed it was. I informed the sideline the next time I noticed I couldn't hold the ball. I also told the trainers the same thing when I got off. "I can't grab it," I exclaimed. I feel like if you pull it, I'll be OK," When I went in for X-rays, I noticed something was wrong.
Will Grier will serve as the Cowboys' backup quarterback while Cooper Rush will start in his place.
