Marcus Mariota
Marcus Mariota, the quarterback for the Falcons, appeared to be on track to win his first start with the team on Sunday, but a 26-10 advantage vanished in the fourth quarter, and the Saints defeated their NFC South opponents 27-26.
The Saints' quarterback Jameis Winston had trouble moving the ball through the first three quarters, but he led the comeback by going 13 of 16 for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Given that performance, some people might blame the Atlanta defense, but Mariota focused on the Falcons' shortcomings on his side of the field.
Mariota remarked, "I would say the most significant difference was finishing in the red zone. We had numerous chances to enter that area, score touchdowns, and effectively end the game. As a result, we permitted them to remain, which is something we need to revisit, examine, and fix.
Mariota didn't fumble again
Before the comeback began, one of the significant misses occurred. Mariota said he wishes he "would have just gone down and protected the ball" rather than attempting to gain extra yardage after losing a fumble at the Saints' 5-yard line in the third quarter.
Mariota didn't fumble again, but in the fourth quarter, a poor snap on a third-and-1 prevented the Saints from gaining a first down. They eventually took control of the ball after the resulting punt to take the lead permanently.
