Two days after it was made public that Bills punter Matt Araiza had been charged with rape in the past, he is not present for today's practice.
Araiza wasn't participating in practice, but the Bills assured the on-scene media that he is still on the roster—at least for the time being.
Araiza traveled to Carolina yesterday for Buffalo's final preseason game but did not participate in the contest. After the game, Bills head coach Sean McDermott remarked that the club still needs to learn much about Araiza's circumstances.
After an outstanding career at San Diego State, the Bills selected Araiza in the sixth round of this year's draught. It is unknown if the Bills or any other team knew that Araiza had been charged with rape six months before the selection.
Last year, a 17-year-old woman complained that Araiza and two of his San Diego State teammates had sexually assaulted her to the San Diego police. The incident was not made public until Thursday after the girl filed a civil case against Araiza, and neither Araiza nor San Diego State took any action against him.
