The moment that boxing lovers have been waiting for has arrived. This Wednesday, the trailer for the MIKE series, starring Trevante Rhodes, was presented, which seeks to tell the life of Mike Tyson through a broader vision than that known until now.
Rhode, of Moonlight fame, stars like Mike Tyson in the eight-part series produced by Hulu.
During the trailer of just over a minute, it is clear that the series will touch on the most critical moments in the life of the former world champion, from winning the heavyweight title to being convicted of rape; besides iconic moments of his career, such as the bite to Evander Holyfield's ear.
Showrunner Karin Gist assured Entertainment Weekly that the MIKE series is not meant to glorify the former boxer's life.
"We never try to say that Mike Tyson is a hero or that Mike Tyson is a villain. Our goal was to take a very complicated and controversial figure and try to understand what was praised and reviled while staying true to our North Star of 'no person is a thing,'" he explained.
Other key people in Mike Tyson's life appear in the Wednesday short film: Russell Hornsby as legendary promoter Don King and Harvey Keitel as trainer Cus D'Amato.
