Before this week's Senior Open Championship at Gleneagles, Harrington made his remarks. He spoke about Henrik Stenson being relieved of his captaincy duties after joining the LIV Golf, the most recent European Ryder Cup captain.
Stenson agreed to captain the European squad at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in September 2023 when he signed on in March.
The Swede decided not to fulfill those duties in favor of the money bonanza he would receive for participating in the league supported by Saudi Arabia, as Harrington pointed out.
Harrington claimed that he was a part of the selection committee that selected Stenson as captain and that they are now looking for someone to take Stenson's place.
Regarding the timing of the matches in Italy, Harrington remarked that 15 months would be "plenty of time." There is no problem with the actual team, and nothing has been done to establish selection or qualification procedures. It has no impact on the Ryder Cup in any way. I do not doubt that a new skipper will be appointed soon.
