    The Padres have built their roster, one blockbuster after another, and general manager AJ Preller might have pulled off his biggest hit yet.

    He is finalizing a deal to make  Juan Soto a San Diego Padre.


    In one of the sport's most monumental trades in recent memory, the Padres are set to send shortstop  CJ Abrams, first baseman  Eric Hosmer, left-hander  MacKenzie Gore and some very intriguing prospects to the Nationals for Soto and the first baseman. Point guard  Josh Bell, sources.

    Soto, a generational slugger under contract through the 2024 season, would join a group in San Diego that already includes Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. The Padres sit 12 games over .500, squarely in one spot—wild Card, with his eyes on his first World Series title. But, severely lacking in power, they've spent the last few months looking for.

    The 6-foot-6 Susana, the top-ranked pitcher in the 2021-22 international class, is poised to rank significantly higher than 14th in San Diego's system in post-deadline prospect rankings thanks to an impressive performance in rookie ball.
