CeeDee Lamb their primary receiver
Because they were prepared to make CeeDee Lamb their primary receiver and didn't want to pay Cooper $20 million as a No. 2 receiver, the Cowboys dealt Amari Cooper to the Browns in exchange for a fifth-round draught pick. Despite the tiny sample size, it is clear that choosing Cooper for Cleveland and Lamb as the Cowboys' primary receivers was a mistake after just one game.
The Cowboys were without wide receiver James Washington, whose foot injury on August 1 is likely to keep him out for 6-10 weeks, and wide receivers Michael Gallup, who is recovering from an ACL tear sustained on January 2.
But on opening night, Lamb didn't have the appearance of a No. 1 receiver.
The third-year receiver had two catches for 29 yards on 11 targets
According to Mark Lane of WFAA, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones stated on 105.3 The Fan on Monday, "I believe we've got to step up and do better." "The quarterback and the receivers work together to create the passing game. We must undoubtedly improve there. CeeDee needs to develop and work his way up to becoming the top receiver we believe he is capable of being.
Before breaking his hand in the fourth quarter, Dak Prescott had the third-worst passer rating of his career as the Cowboys only managed 173 passing yards. Now that Prescott will be out for 6–8 weeks, Lamb must work to communicate with Cooper Rush.
Prescott told Lamb, "We should be able to [get connected]." And that's partly my fault; it's simply a matter of getting on the same page. He's a hell of a player and a person that wants the ball, so, yeah. More communication with him is necessary, and it must begin with me.
