Patrick Mahomes threw back-to-back interceptions on the Chiefs' opening drive of the second half. Offsetting penalties rendered the first ineffective. Replay overturned the second because Asante Samuel could not secure the ball for the pick before it struck the ground.
Two chances were too many.
Using seven plays and a 41-yard touchdown pass to Justin Watson, Mahomes led the Chiefs 75 yards. J.C. Jackson, who is making his Chargers debut tonight, was defeated by Watson. Watson's first catch since 2020 and his first score since 2019 came on that play.
Mecole Hardman abandoned the game to get his foot re-taped, so Watson was only able to play.
The Chargers are now just down by 17-14, thanks to the Chiefs.
16 of 21 for 173 yards and two touchdowns from Mahomes.
